Good for a quiet week , car is handy, only a few restaurants opened in the Spring/Summmer.

Friendly staff, quiet location and pretty surroundings for access to Agaete Old town and the port. Food was ok and rooms spacious and very clean.

Lack of public toilets by pool, (×1 for 300 guests if full) Loud live music one day was not relaxing and outdated spa changing room facilities needs attention. Bed was too soft and uncomfortable.

Amazing views, good food and polite staff but...

Very polite staff and always willing to help. Amazing views and location of the hotel. Big comfortable room with balcony. Breakfast and Dinner buffet had big variety with really nice food.

We had half board which included dinner but charged when asked for drinking water as tap water is not suitable for drinking. Someone would think that water is a basic need especially with food and would be included not charged extra. Cockroach found in the room, staff disinfect and offered alternative room but declined as it was on a lower level without the expected view compared to original room/booking

Perfect for a quiet, relaxing holiday.

Food was beautiful and fresh with plenty of variety for everyone.

Was really looking forward to a few treatments in the spa but everything was booked up. Would recommend booking before you arrive.

What was the highlight of Occidental Roca Negra

Overall, the best hotel we have stayed in in recent years in this price range.

The hotel is located in a very peaceful but picturesque setting. The location is really great, both on the rocky plateau and for walking along the ocean, just a wonderful location. It's also perfect as an excursion centre to the island, obviously not a destination for party seekers. We were given a room on the top floor of the back wing, which despite not being booked as a sea-facing room, had a full ocean view (as we could see over the front wing building). This was a particular surprise. The hotel is extremely clean, the rooms in this wing are in perfect condition (except for one small detail, which I describe below). The facilities are very good (in fact, they provide things that are not obvious in other 4 star hotels, like razors, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shoe shine kit, etc, etc...). The beds were the most comfortable beds we've had in years, and we've been to a few places. Dinner was very tasty, as usual a different theme each day, the choice was moderately wide, we have been to places with a much wider choice. But we were satisfied. Breakfast is also of good quality, but again with a moderate selection. The same food there every day. Parking: we could always find a parking space on the road leading to the hotel, within 200 meters maximum. We had a very good experience with the staff, they were nice and helpful.

In fact, for this hotel, for this price level, we can't mention anything that would be a serious problem, we were very satisfied. The only inconvenience we had was that the towel rails in our room were possibly screwed on (badly, with faulty holes) and were also loose. But that's a small thing, everything else was perfect.

Wonderful

Lovely hotel - our room was huge with a sofa as well as the beds -also a large balcony overlooking the sea. Pool is heated, lots of comfy sun beds and a pool bar. All very clean and the staff everywhere are absolutely lovely - helpful , smiling. Fantastic sunsets from the Rocktop sky bar - and we loved the salt pools a short walk away down the path from the hotel.

If you are physically less able , there is no easy access steps into the pool - and no handrail to help get into the jacuzzi which is a big step down. My friend is a vegetarian and although there were always lovely salads and vegetables to accompany meals , there were rarely any purely vegetarian dishes. If you are not eating at the hotel , be prepared for a walk to restaurants etc.

Perfect quiet holiday in the presence of wild ocean seascapes...

Stunning location, a balcony looking out over the wild ocean, enormous buffet breakfast (fresh papaya was heavenly!), big swimming pool that you could swim proper laps in, really helpful and friendly staff (Gustavo kindly printed bus time-tables for us for local travel). In real life this hotel is exactly as portrayed in the photos; we felt like we were living like rock-stars for a week! The location is brilliant for walking - you get good exercise just going up and down the hill into town. Perfect place for a proper holiday, a week away from it all, with just the sound of the waves for company....

Location superb. There's direct access to the natural pool from the hotel, only 5 min walk. Then 10 min walk along the seafront to the village. Very convenient.

Location an hotel was great. Well equipped Fantastic views spacious room

The dinner buffet and service in the food hall was not good: Dirty plates were not removed timely Cutlery was not really clean Selection on dinner buffet was at best mediocre Some of the drinks were not served I would book the hotel again, but definately not half board

Very Good

The pool and the fact there was plenty of seating throughout. The hotel was kept clean and the staff were attentive tho' on our first night the restaurant was severely understaffed.

The lack of a kettle in the room as coffee etc was sometimes difficult to access with nothing within the hotel itself (apart from a dodgy dispenser)until Rocktop opened. From a PR point of view the hotel should promote better its life shows and a la cart dinners. About 9 people saw Betty Brown on the night I watched ,- she deserved better!!.

Great hotel, would book it again

The location directly at the beach is awesome. Just in a few minutes you reach the natural pools. The bed was comfortable, the pool is very nice and has a lot of space to chill.

The dinner and breakfast was good but the room is a bit noisy.

Location was great. Good views. Access to natural pools. Great bar.

Rooftop bar should open earlier before dinner. 7pm is a ridiculous time to start when it's the ultimate spot for sunset. Should be open at like 4/5 onwards. Pool starts to lose sun around then anyway so nobody down there

Despite a few niggles this is a great hotel in an amazing location.

Great location with a decent sized swimming pool overlooking the ocean and a good path down to ocean swimming pools hewn out of the rock. Nice spa. Good buffet breakfast. Clever architecture kept the lower interior level of the hotel cool.

The beds were not particularly comfortable and the pillows were decidedly uncomfortable. The air conditioning was either off or on but would not control to a set temperature. There was one supercilious receptionist who detracted from the otherwise really friendly and helpful staff. The hotel doesn’t provide suitcase stands and there is limited shelf space to unpack.
